Biomes What is a biome? Biomes are the entire ecosystem and surrounding geographic features in an area. They are made up of living creatures and the land on which they live, including the soil and rocks. Biomes can be very different from one another, for instance, a tundra biome is very sparse with vegetation and is very cold with the animals living there often having large bodies with lots of hair and fur to keep warm, in contrast, a desert has little to no vegetation and is extremely hot during the day and cold at night, the animals in deserts have evolved to withstand the extreme temps. Why biomes are important. Biomes help keep the biodiversity of our planet, this is beneficial because our planet's ecosystems are always in a cycle, and maintaining a large diversity of organisms prevents the cycle from becoming stagnant and keeps one species from overpopulating our planet due to them not being able to survive in other biomes.  Different types of biomes.
